Something REVOLTING this way comes… Murdoch students to challenge the patriarchy in post-dramatic production. The Revolution is coming…
Murdoch Performing group proudly presents Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again. Showing for 4 nights only at the Nexus Theatre, this INYERFACE Feminist production promises to captivate audiences between the 28th-31st of October 2020. Each show will start at 7 PM and run for just over an hour.
Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again. is an experimental post-dramatic play written by Alice Birch. This INYERFACE production is far from tame, a feminist production that focuses on the power of language and tells the story of the female struggle in a patriarchal universe. Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again. hits the feminist nerve hard through horrific humour. The first two acts prioritise smaller ensembles and dialogue, concerned with topics such as rape, the pain of labour and childbirth, domestic abuse, marriage, and other violent themes. But as we transition into acts three and four, the cast expands, and audiences are met with a chaotic amalgamation of choral action and speech. From watermelons to paradoxical prophecies of dystopia and utopia, and the annihilation of all men, the line between the performer and character blur. The play itself has little to no continuity and each scene becomes a standalone narrative, each seemingly lacking a sense of closure or resolution which draws audiences in to the climactic fourth act, which ties everything together.
“This play is a funny, confronting and challenging work highly relevant to contemporary debates about gender and sexual politics. One thing I can promise: it won't be boring. Short, punchy and fun.” – Dr David Moody.
The director of Murdoch Performing group’s production, Dr David Moody, is a senior lecturer and tutor at Murdoch University, with over thirty years of experience writing and directing theatre. David is fascinated with the political power of theatre, and the impact performance can have on audience thinking. So when the opportunity to put on Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again. came around, David wasn’t going to say no!
